CABQ Defensive Drivers Training for City Operators Permit 2024-2025
Required Training for Employees with City Operator Permits
Welcome to the City of Albuquerque Defensive Driver Training program for employees required to possess a City Operators Permit.
This course is being provided by the City of Albuquerque Risk Management Department and is designed to review the policies for acquiring and maintaining a City Operators Permit for use in operating city vehicles or using personal vehicles for city business purposes.
This training is mandatory for all city vehicle operators and COP holders, and must be renewed every four years.
This training will cover the City Operators Permit Policy as well as the equivalent of two hours of defensive driver training that will include:
- Social and economic cost of traffic accidents
- Causes of traffic accidents
- Physical, mental, and emotional effects on reaction time and judgement
- Mechanical limitation and vehicle inspection
- Defensive Driving Techniques
- Procedures to follow when involved in an accident and accident reporting procedures.
Once you have completed this online training, and met the all of the requirements of the City of Albuquerque COP policy, you will be granted a City Operators Permit that will be current for four consecutive years. You will be required to complete this training at the end of every four years in order to renew your City Operators Permit.
